Rosenthaler Straße, Berlin

The beautiful, historically protected building quietly standing at Rosenthaler Strasse 52 in Berlin-Mitte, was commissioned to Bollinger + Fehlig Architects to be fully renovated into a modern, operative commercial building. This historical building, which at the start of the project was in immediate danger of collapsing and only secured by emergency measures, was completely re-established with the load-bearing core being almost fully replaced. The upper floors were converted into office spaces with integrated contemporary heating and plumbing and a kitchenette area. The ground floor was made to connect to the basement by an internal staircase and is now used as a commercial space by the retail store, All Saints. The façade with the spacious and historically classic studio windows, and the elaborate staircase, give the building a special charm. Both the façade and windows were fully restored throughout the course of the renovation work. A curved steel construction with integrated “Louvre” windows replaces the old Berlin roof, which was unable to be restored and subsequently demolished.
