Sustainably Good

Two residential buildings for senior citizens are being built in Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Through their uniform cubature and the same design principles, the two structures form a seamless ensemble. Sustainability and cost-effectiveness are two main features of this project. The structural concept allows for high flexibility in the layout design, and modular components ensure an economical construction method. Photovoltaic panels, retention roofs, straw walls, and greywater reuse, which reuses dish, shower and laundry water, are just some of the measures that effectively make this project sustainable. The comb-like structure of the building creates private inner courtyards as meeting places, and spacious balconies enable residents to have barrier-free and uncomplicated access to the outdoors. The end result is a sustainable, flexible community space, built for togetherness.
