Primary School, Bad Mergentheim

In the enchanting spa town of Bad Mergentheim in Baden-Württemberg, BFA has taken part in a competition for the construction of a two-story primary school. Two point-mirrored, rectangular structures overlap and interlock in the center, providing a formidable structure. A spacious playground opens to both the north and south sides, continuing as a meeting and break area inside. Classrooms frame this open area, which can also be used as an auditorium. Typically characterized as an “open school” format, the library and the rooms for music, movement, handicraft and woodworking, open freely to the courtyard. The spacious staircase is centrally located, allowing effortless access to the upper gallery floors. In addition, a permeable facade and square skylights provide light and refreshing air to the interior.
